What I Learned From a Year of Living Ayurveda

I bought my first book on the topic of Ayurveda years before I went to my first yoga class. I loved how Ayurveda spoke about constitutional types as well as seasonal considerations, rather than simply a one approach fits all philosophy. It made sense to me. Though not much else that I read in the book did, as I had no context for it at the time….

3 Tools for Yoga Teachers Who Want to Make a Bigger Impact

Today I jumped on the phone with about fifty yoga teachers from all over North America and Europe for a tele-class workshop where I offered the three key tools that I have identified as the most helpful for yoga teachers who want to up their game and make a bigger impact in the classroom, and in their communities.

Living a Life of Practice

Most of us crave cycles of growth and renewal in our lives, as we all want to feel the newness of discovery and expansion in our relationships, in our careers, and in our spiritual practice. But we often forget that before growth there must be a period of birth, and before birthing there is a period of change, death or release. It is in these aspects of the pulsation that we often become stuck, because death or letting go is painful, and birth requires effort and a willingness to push into the unknown….

Are You Ready for Yoga Teacher Training?

The question that I get asked most often in regards to my yoga teacher training courses is something along the lines of “I can’t do all the poses yet, would I be able to do a teacher training?” or “ I have only been doing yoga for a few years, am I ready for teacher training?” ….

Finding Your Unique Voice as a Yoga Teacher

If you are a yoga teacher I urge you to reflect on the greater purpose behind all that has led you to where you are now, in this exact moment in your life, and to ask yourself if there is anywhere that you are holding back from sharing the full story of who you are with your students, your community, your loved ones, and anyone else you come into contact with? …

The Benefits of Staying Home

I live in a small town in a rather remote area and as a result do not have a senior yoga teacher nearby that I can study with. Since last September I have left town for up to seven days at a time on six different occasions to study with my teachers. I have gone to LA, Vancouver, Utah and Montreal so that I could spend some time in a learning environment with teachers that I love and respect. Total Cost= $6,750.00 (give or take a few hundred dollars for food and green juices) Value= Priceless to be sure….

Yoga Teacher Training Days

We are halfway through our Yoga Teacher Training program and have had two great guest teachers come share their knowledge with us the last two weekends which has been a lot of fun. Dan Clement of Open Source Yoga taught an afternoon workshop at the studio today that offered a contrasting look at Yin and…

Springtime Abundance

It’s a rainy New Moon night in Tofino and I have finally found a quiet moment to catch up on my blog. Life has been incredibly full with Yoga Teacher Training, my usual schedule of drop in classes, and family life to attend to and it seems it has been a very long time since…

Enjoying the Beauty

It has been so incredible beautiful these last few days in Tofino. Full moon, sunsine, cold clear skies, quiet beaches…so much Shri. I have really had my head down since I returned from my two weeks of studying in Vancouver with my teachers Chris and Robin. I have been focused on refining my teaching, studying…

I really can’t believe it is already December. This past year has been so incredibly full that it has just flown right by – in the most delightful blur possible. When I think back on all the wonderful events of the past 12 months I am stunned by how rich life has been, and at…
