The Freedom of Discipline

Yesterday afternoon I drove down the snowy road from Whistler to One Yoga For The People in Vancouver to catch some classes with Ryan Leier, who has just returned from a month of study with BKS Iyengar in Pune, India. I will assume that if you are reading this blog that you have an interest…

Giving Thanks (in no particular order)

New friends. Good conversation. Farmer’s markets. Family dinners. Sleepy dogs. Full moons. Spring fevers. Remembering and forgetting. Pumpkin pies. Time alone……

Autumn Updates & Apple Chutney!

I love autumn as it is a season of great clarity for me and is typically the time of year that I re- assess what I have been putting my energy into and how I want to create positive changes going forward. It is a time of cleansing and releasing as well as a time of vision and intention. All the best decisions I have made regarding my life path were made in the fall and so I have learned to trust the guidance I receive from within at this time….

Gratitude: A Love Letter To The Tofino Yoga Community

After five days of moving and unpacking we are finally settled in to our new mountain home here in Whistler. The boxes are all emptied, everything has found its place and we are getting more and more familiar with our new surroundings each day. It seems as if we were transitioning for a long time…

New Beginnings…

Like most people I know who have lived a few decades, or more, my life has always been marked by great change, tidal shifts and new beginnings, and as student of yoga, which is a path of constant refinement, I would be in trouble if I couldn’t swim in these waters with relative comfort. However that doesn’t mean that change is easy or that I don’t at times feel fear, discomfort, sadness, or confusion….

But we often forget that before growth there must be a period of birth, and before birthing there is a period of change, death or release. It is in these aspects of the pulsation that we often become stuck, because death or letting go is painful, and birth requires effort and a willingness to push into the unknown….

Are You Ready for Yoga Teacher Training?

The question that I get asked most often in regards to my yoga teacher training courses is something along the lines of “I can’t do all the poses yet, would I be able to do a teacher training?” or “ I have only been doing yoga for a few years, am I ready for teacher training?” ….

Finding Your Unique Voice as a Yoga Teacher

If you are a yoga teacher I urge you to reflect on the greater purpose behind all that has led you to where you are now, in this exact moment in your life, and to ask yourself if there is anywhere that you are holding back from sharing the full story of who you are with your students, your community, your loved ones, and anyone else you come into contact with? …

My Brief Two Cents & Some Thoughtful Responses to the NY Times Article

Earlier this month the NY Times published an article entitled How Yoga Can Wreck Your Body and it quickly went viral. While I have decided not to write a full response to this article myself as I am currently on vacation with my family I have chosen to post some of my favorite responses to this article as I think they are very well written and are in alignment with my feelings on the subject.
